Sky, York 9 September - St Leger day!! (moved from Doncaster because of redevelopment).

I have already called a chum who lives near Brighouse, and who I haven't seen for a bit - also chums in Sheffield, so I may arrive mob-handed (potential syndicate members???)

EVERYONE - CAN YOU MAKE YORK 9 SEPTEMBER (ST LEGER)? PLEASE POST QUICK, AS SKY AND COSTA HAVE TO COME FROM ABROAD.

It will be crowded and we will have to make arrangements to meet beforehand somewhere. Know there are at least a couple of "Yorkists" on the board. Any advice about a meeting room/meeting place mid-morning beforehand - FF, I know you're a York expert.....?

I think we need to limit the meeting itself to potential members only, but of course anyone else going to the St Leger we'd be happy for you to join us after, I'm sure!!

AuntyJen,

I cannot make the 9th as I am in Rio for and Oil and Gas exhibition the following week.

Please don't let that stop you lot going as long as I know what was agreed/spoken I am happy to go with the majority.

My wife hopes to find the time to knock up some racing colours over this weekend, if she does I will scan them and post the ideas for everyone to see.

Glennie, no probs - Rio eh!! If you have anything in particular you'd like to be discussed/questions to ask, let me know and I'll try my best to represent your interests. Same goes for everyone who can't make the meeting, of course.

BobbyW has expressed interest in a share on another thread (in the Horse Racing forum). I have followed it up with a pm asking him to post on this forum, but you might like to add a notional 1 share to your running total.

Great about the colours - hope we make it!!

Bobby W added.

The foreign office don't glamourise Rio....plenty of robbing at Gunpoint etc and I am working so it is not all relaxation..Mrs Glennie is going too..she is going to sunbathe and relax

Probably the most important thing for me is that the monthly cost is as fixed as is possible. The chance of monthly costs spiralling out of control is my main worry. If Richard Lee is really offering a true "All in" price then please note that I would be in favour of that.

Being not too familiar with the North, which airport is closer?

Leeds Bradford, East Midlands, Manchester???

I can fly via East Midlands for about 75 pounds if it's commutable.

Done, Glennie.

By the way, as I worked in the Foreign Office for years, I find their so-called advice always a bit alarmist - just protecting themselves from accusations of not telling people simple things!

Never been to Rio, but on experience the basic sensible advice is the best. Keep passport and other important documents in a safe place, not on you. Carry only reasonable amounts of cash, no credit cards. Then you can give it up if necessary! Ask local advice and don't stray into dodgy areas. Don't wear obviously expensive things like watches, jewellery. Don't carry an expensive camera or use it in poor areas. Dress down. Learn a few phrases of the local language. Don't get too drunk (you are then an easy mark!)

But you probably know all this anyway! Most important, enjoy it!!

Sky, I'd say Leeds/Bradford or Manchester at a guess, but others may be able to confirm. My chum in Brighouse (Huddersfield) who is in the same sort of business as me, uses both.

Do you know the site www.multimap.com? It has maps for all over and is searchable, so you could look up the geography/distances.

I am going to spend the couple of days previous in that area - so if you need a pickup and/or lift to York on the day I could probably do that.

I'm from the south but this is my understanding

Leeds Bradford would be best for York

Manchester would be best for Haydock unless you can find a direct flight to Liverpool

Thanks.

Looking like I can fly to Leeds / Bradfor for just over 50 quid, with 'something' called Jet2. Now I'm just checking whether I need to bring my own seat, safety belt and other stuff, as I've never heard of them.

Cannot believe it.......will now not be going to Rio got a phone call from Opodo to tell me Varig Airlines has gone bankrupt and all these flights are now cancelled. Tried to re-book with another carrier but the flights have risen so much it is not a viable proposition.

This however still does not mean I can come... I have my kids all weekend every other weekend and that is my weekend to have them now I am going to be in the UK. York/Haydock is too far to bring the kids, they get travel sickness as it is!

Please keep me in the loop with what is agreed.

Sorry about that, Glennie!

I will post the results of the meeting on here, or email/pm anything sensitive (like who got off with who and so on ).

Jenny,

When are you visiting some of the trainers ??????

Thereafter I assume a meeting date and venue should be decided. I feel as SKY(4),YY(2),COSTA(2) and yourself(2) account for over 33% of the 29 shares pledged. You guys between you should decide the timing and place for the meeting. Everyone else would need to work around the date decided. I know it will be difficult for Costa to come in from Spain, but lets just say, Sky,YY and yourself plus six or eight others can get together, thats more than 50% of the potential shareholders at the meeting. I think you`ll be lucky if you can achieve more than that for the first meet up.

Best regards

Rapid
