Wonder who at the Beeb has been leaning on him?

Quote:
Former political journalist John Sergeant has decided to pull out of the BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing.

The 64-year-old has received strong support from the public since the show started, but the judges have been critical of his dancing.

In a statement, he said: "The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far."

BBC One controller Jay Hunt said: "We are very sad to see him go."

Sergeant, who was partnered with Russian dancer Kristina Rihanoff said: "I am sorry to say I have decided to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

"It was always my intention to have fun on the show and I was hoping to stay in as long as possible."

The former journalist, whose Paso Doble was heavily criticised, said he would like "thank Kristina and all those viewers who have been rooting for me through the series".

Have the Beeb just realised that the British public vote for people that they like rather than those are the best dancers/singers/whatever?!

They've just opened a Have Your Say on the website, full of annoyed people so far...

Didn't this happen with one of the Andrew Lloyd Webber "find a star" shows? And ALW was so peeved that he wouldn't let the public vote for a Nancy, or Oliver or something?

Just shows how much a joke it is.

Thought that was a wind-up for a moment! I think that's a real shame and definitely reduces my interest in the show. Quite unfair on those who've spent money voting for him so far as well.

As i have said before, i have never watched this programme but find it quite sad and feel really sorry for him as he was damned if he stayed and damned if he went.
You can just see the public outcry going over the top in the next few days and the judges all getting a pasting in the media.
Wonder how long it will take before it is mentioned in Parliament?
I thought the producers would have fought a bit harder to keep him in there as he is now their main pulling thing for the show.
I couldnt tell you who else was in the programme.
