No lasses then, Geordie? So Nicole Cook, Rebecca Adlington, several other cyclists, rowers, sailors, a pentathlete and Ohorugu don't count? I do hope that was an error.....
C'mon chum, the Olympics isn't a jingo-fest, it's a sporting contest. The only thing that distinguishes it from other sporting contests is that it takes place only every 4 years, and more countries participate.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the Olympics and enjoyed every minute of the time I spent watching and listening. But I dislike jingoism in any form because I think it clouds the judgement and makes fools of the wise.
To quote the little rhyme:
"We don't want to fight but by Jingo if we do
We've got the ships, we've got the men, we've got the money too."
Forgive me if I don't find that particularly admirable, and that I don't want the commentators I pay for through the license fee simply to revel in British success! Seems a bit of a narrow view to me.

As one of them said at the end of the race in which GB got Gold & Bronze..."Holy Moly!" _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up |

I've got use to Garry Herbett screaming his head off 4 years ago so it didn't bother me much!
Everybody was good & even Hugh Porter telling us he walked the Mountain Bike Course before the event was clever. Brilliant that he can turn his hand to all the cycling events including BMX & Mountain Biking.
A job well done & thanks BBC for bringing the drama of the Games into our homes! :thumleft: _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up |
