Must admit to being very impressed by Tidal Bay at the weekend. Although he pulled hard at the start he settled well and jumped fluently in the most. But the most impressive thing was the he kepted on relentessly galloping beating a fair benchmark in Albertas Run without being asked a question. Howard Johnson belives he could be an absolute machine if learning to settle better and that 3m is well within his range and i agree. Therefore i've had my first ante post for cheltenham with 2 points at 12/1 as i think this is a very generous price considering i think Aran Concerto will be aimed at either the Arkle or Ryanair
Visually impressed with Tidal Bay at Aintree, jumped well, but "fiddled" when he had to - this is a graveyard race, so I'd be more inclined on a split stakes Arkle and RSA chase punt myself. _________________ ROLL OF HONOUR
The reason i went for the RSA is that Howard Johnson belives that Tidal Bay will be suited too a trip, but the other race for him may be the Ryanair Chase although next year i belive they harbour dreams of the gold cup itself Sso the RSA is the more logical route.
I love 3 mile novice chasers and I like the Sun Alliance and I always like to find the winner, I have had not much luck in previous years.
Money Trix is my 3 miler to follow by he is more suited to soft ground in which you do not get most of the time come March. But I like him a hell of a lot and cannot wait to see him.
Tidal Bay is another (see Arkle thread).
I am hugely interested in Nevada Royale, there has been lot of noise about this horse and his huge potential, he would be one I would be keen on backing, when Nicholls and co make noise about a horse its worth taking note.
Of the Irish lot, Johnnie Dillinger was staying on very wel in the Ballymore when falling at the last, he would make up into a nice 3 miler and is about 50/1
I look forward to seeing Silverburn, Denmans brother, he will be interesting over fences, Charlie Mann thinks a lot of Air Force One and has him down as a Gold Cup horse.
Gold Medallist is another horse who has been off the track for a long time of Philip Hobbs, a decent flat horse, he is interesting.
On the shortlist at the moment
Money Trix
Nevada Royale
Tidal Bay
Johnnie Dillinger
Silverburn
Gold Medallist _________________ Great Endeavour- I rest my case which I presented in December. Plot landed.
Difficult at this stage in the season to see who goes where, but like most folks I had identified Tidal Bay as one to follow, although I am not sure the up hill finish suits him.... great Aintree horse though!
He is on my short list along with
Silverburn
Classic Fiddle (mare out of Fiddling the Facts who had a fantastic 6yo season) The ground may go against her though.
Imperial Commander - came 6th In the Ballymore last season and won at Chelts in October when Twiston Davis having has good month.
Ringaroses - although would like to see him out before considering further.... this may take time as he is with the clucking Hen. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzDGTMayREI
A potential contender for this race runs @ Punchestown today in TAILOR'S HALL and will be worth watching to see how he gets on, he beat Aitmatov on his last hurdles win which as we no now is good form but a trip like this come march could be just what he wants. Bridge Run is the danger today which will be a good yardstick if he can beat this one _________________ Forest are Treemendous
A horse that isn't in any lists yet (probably because he hasn't jumped a fence in public yet) is Mendo. I have always been a fan of this horse since he appeared to show he had a massive engine when third in the bumper on National day at Aintree in 2005. He was then off the course until last Christmas.
I was impressed with his win at Cheltenham yesterday and he's certainly tough enough for a race like the RSA from a Trainer who's no stranger to Festival glory. If he is now sent over fences he'll be one I'll be supporting. _________________ 2008 Ryder Cup Competition - WINNER
I am a huge Mendo fan and backed him at the weekend, however I do think he is an out and out stayer and the ground assisted him this weekend. I know Noel thinks 2m4 is his trip and he usually gets it spot on - would be great to see him with a festrival contender. He is certainly going to be a better chaser than hurdler so there is better to come.
I know Tidal Bay beat Albertas Run, but I would be interested in him at 25-1 on the basis that he has jumped around Chelts and won nicely - Trevor Hemmings did say he was not ready for his first run so the win on Saturday was much more encouraging!
Phardy, Albertas run had already had a run in a beginners chase before Aintree whereas Tidal Bay was having his first. Having already backed Tidal Bay i was encouraged by his performance as i have been told that it was intention to try and get him a bit close at some of the fences to educate him more. He also couldn't jump fluently at some because of the crawl of the pace that was set
4 against the field in royal and sun alliance chase are
tidal bay - impressive so far and i am sure teh step up to 3 miles will only aid this relentless galloper
aran concerto - a very talented horse who did not produce his best in teh ballymore
the market man - described as a chaser to look forward too by nicky henderson but this horse needs genuine good ground to be at his best also he his coming back from an injury but is a very decent outsider
imperial commander - bold jumper and has won twice at cheltenham over 2 miles 5 will improved when he tackles 3 miles and looks to have a serious engine _________________ Tazbar = machine up north (wont be beaten over hurdles in scotland)
Aux Le Bahn = serious serious engine
Bible Lord = very well handicapped
At this very early stage i like Tidal Bay but he will have to brush up on his jumping to win this and Imperial Commander who also needs to brush up a bit on his jumping but like Daylami states above, he looks to have a serious engine and potentially a top class horse.
I look forward to seeing Silverburn who i believe is on his way back from stomach ulcers.
Notived that Tidal Bay has again been shortened for this since his win at carlisle down to 10/1 now. Think he will put away till near christmas time now then maybe two more races before the festival
I am really worried by HJ'S comments regarding Tidal Bay by saying a fast run arkle may suit him better with Arcalis out for the season. I have £25 on Tidal bay for the R&S chase at 12/1 so not only am i talking out my pocket but i think he has one hell of an engine and is better suited by a longer trip and he has hardly been trained for an Arkle so far has he??
he his going to be better the further he goes, in my opinion and johnson would be very very stupid if he goes for the arkle
a big clue would tidal bays prep run for cheltenham if it is 3 mile then it defo goes for the royal and sun alliance
i think he won on saturday by stamina and can only get better the further he goes _________________ Tazbar = machine up north (wont be beaten over hurdles in scotland)
Aux Le Bahn = serious serious engine
Bible Lord = very well handicapped
yes i totally agree with you but HJ'S comments were quite worrying. Although if Nicanor makes a pleasing reapperance i will definitely be backing him too.
