if i was being serious for a moment; how hard is it to pick just 3?
do you go for alli v liston [first fight] ali v foreman in zaire or aliv frazier 3, the thriller in manilla?
where do you put the duran v leonard fights?
ashes ... flintoff year or botham / willis and the win at 500/1 at headingley
sobers' 6 6s in an over at glamorgan?
michael holding's "perfect over" to Boycott? or holdings 8fer on a flat track at the oval?
boycotts 100th hundred?
brazil 4 italy 1 mexico 1970?
man united 4 benfica 1 wembley 1968?
borg v mcenroe at wimbedon - borgs 5th title?
connors winning the first set 6-0 v borg in the semi at wimbledon with the greatest display of power tennis?
michael dickinsons 5 home in te gold cup?
dessie winnning the gc?
istabraq's three itimer?
shergar's derby?
lance armstrong winning the tour after cancer?
you could name a million
so lets pick the three sporting occassions which I wish I could have been at but wasnt
3rd place; ali v foreman. the greatest peformance by the greatest heavyweight of all time, the sportsman of the century. having beaten the unbeatable sonny liston 5 years earlier he brought the giant, the unbeatable foreman down to size. to guage how good foreman was, look at his fight record before and after that fight, but ali destroyed him that night
2nd place; one man winning the queen mother chase. Just about my favourite horse of all time; when he finally won a festival championship race I was watching on the TV almost crying.... loved that flying grey so much... the follow up at Aintree, of course, made this day even more special.
1st place and the thing I wish I could have been at. the greatest game of football ever [probably]; real madrid 7 eintracht frankfurt 3, hampden park 1960. puskas4, de stefano3, maybe the two greatest players ever... what an occassion, what a team, what a location. _________________ Geordie_R
