Went to Somerset v Glamorgan last year as part of a stag weekend (same weekend that England lost to Portugal in the footie). Great day, enjoyable cricket, weather was perfect etc etc. Unfortunately the team (Somerset), we had a mate playing for lost on the last ball, but at least it was exciting till the end. |

Just noticed this thread - we came down from Glasgow for the weekend to Birmingham about a month ago and went to the semi-finals and finals day at Edgbaston this year. Excellent day out, cricket from about 11 in the morning to after 10 at night, great banter all day, beers all day in the sun, marvellous. And we met Andrew Flintoff in Shimla Pinks curry house the night before (he wasnt drinking, but maybe he should have taken us up on our offer of a 660ml rascal of Cobra lager as he played absolutely gash, though his wife was lovely...)
Moment of the day for me - Gloucestershire fans singing to the Kent fans during the final - to the tune of 'Who Let The Dogs Out' they sang 'Who's Spelt Their Name Wrong, Kent, Kent, Kent, Kent...'
Roll on next year
Cheers

Well, what a start to the 20/20 world cup, amazing game yesterday between WI and SA, and then Zimbabwe managed to beat Australia in a real thriller. If the start to this tournament is anything to go by then im very very excited for the rest of it.
Seriously, if anybody out there isnt a massive fan of cricket im pretty sure 20/20 will change your mind. _________________ 2008 Roll Of Honour (So Far....)

Was listering to the radio during the ODI's & they said that if a couple of players just got into the groove then anything could happen in 20/20 & that was bourne out in the Zim v Oz game although it looks as if the Oz team have come to this contest thinking it will be a walk over & are in danger of going home by the end of today.
England perform well yesterday & must now be thankful that they put D Mas' on the plane after all!!
Must win today against Oz though. _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up |

Its stupid decisions to pick journeymen county cricketers like Maddy, Prior Kirtley and Mascheranas that mean we will not do any good under the current management. England were outclassed by a far superior Aussie team today. They don't bother with one day bits and pieces cricketers they go with their class players. I said when Fletcher left Graveney and the rest of the selectors should of gone and I stand by that still. Having had a summer to look at Peter Moores as coach, I am not overley impressed. He has failed to get the correct batting line up at either test or one day cricket, and seems like Fletcher to have his favourite players and sticks by them. I fear we will struggle to improve much under this current set up and continue to be under achievers until things change behind the scenes |

Mascheranas has the backing if Shane Warne who felt it was a disgrace that he wasn't in the OD side. He has talent & anyone who can hit 5 sixes off one over as he did in the recent ODI's shows it. I was really surprised by Maddy being included & think they should of gone with a more of a pitch hitter to open up with. A bit like Hadden does for Oz.
For me Freddie really has to fire with the bat or his place becomes wasted....include him as a bowler if need be & find someone else who can be an allrounder.
Still really & truely this is only a Micky Mouse comp & they might not feel that it's woth worring over. _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up |

Sorry to disagree Hampton but five sixes over "Cow Corner" off a part time left arm spinner is no proof of class!! I think you will find Australia's top three in the batting were Hayden Gilchrist and Ponting a bit different to Maddy Prior and Sutton!! Game over before we start. The current selection policy for the England team is pathetic. Mickey Mouse comp or not it is a chance to improve your team and blood young talent not go with county 30 year olds who have never dug any trees up at county level in 10 seasons!! |

I agree that if you have class players like Hayden & Pointing coming so early in 20/20 your looking at pay time. For me Prior seems either capable of making a big score or being woeful....& it's the second part we see more of!
Still think we need pitch hitters first up....! _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up |
