As we are in the grips of an extreme weather event I thought we could keep a record of our local conditions and see how right/wrong the weather forcasters get it.
St. John's Village (near Woking, Surrey)
Started light snowfall at 18:00pm today. On and off snowfall.
Currently 20:45, fairly steady snowfall and approx. 1cm of snow on the ground.
Updates later. _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet
I live in Norwich city centre. It's been snowing on and off all day. It's not snowing at the moment and as I was walking home from work I noticed it was suprisingly mild considering the snow and ice all around that is). However it is supposed to get to -20 soon _________________ You're born with nothing, and better off that way,
As soon as you got something they send someone to try & take it away!
West Wales (near Cardigan). Ice makes it impossible to leave the farm (because we are on an unadopted road leading to a minor road and on a hill!!)
We have not been out since Saturday. Temperature last night -5, all outside water frozen. One goose died today, otherwise all animals including cows (who are in) are OK.
Today, snowfall on and off all day, to a depth of about 20cm (nearly 1ft I think). Battery from Land Rover removed and brought indoors to recharge (that battery charger is the best thing I have ever bought, because it is now on the old wagon and will charge the battery by tomorrow). Horses stayed in barn although they have the choice of going out to a field with plenty of grazing (although under snow).
Very bad ice under snow, no cars or trucks have arrived since Saturday (including post).
I phoned next door this evening to ask if they were OK and if we could bear a hand if needed. They are throwing away £100s of milk because the milk lorries can't get to the farm (in turn because the Council is only gritting main roads - the milk lorries refuse to come up although Euros has phoned the Council to ask for more grit - and the Oxford (how comfortable!) Farming Conference is discussing how farmers can be better supported.....)
Now it's cold but still above freezing, it has stopped snowing for the moment, but I expect more before morning. We are OK for food but are being careful with bread and milk. I have run out of coal for the stove.... _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!

Hang in there Jenny. Sounds like it may continue till the weekend.
Using the snow that's settling on top of the fence post as a guide, we've had 2cm more in the last half hour.
3cm total.
If it keeps up like that all night I'll struggle to get in to work tommorrow.
SWT driver advised passengers on the journey home tonight that they would be running a limited service tommorrow. Capitulated already.
Make an effort mate.
not sure a will manage an update every hour lochy
No probs Alfie - I'm just excited like I used to be when a hurricane was on the way.
A point about grit. I work at Canary Wharf and it's embarrassing how much grit they had down this afternoon - it looked like 10mm of snow. They look after their own. (of which I'm not) _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet
Ta LS - I had the BBC on the phone earlier, and you may find me on their weather blog!
We are OK but feed for the pigs and geese might be getting difficult if this goes on for another few days. We have enough hay for the horses, enough cat food for the cats, and enough goat food for the goats - so we can manage for a bit yet! _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
South Birmingham - about 3 inches of snow from earlier and now snowing steadily again. Car abandoned a couple of streets away
Looks like it must have stopped overnight, not much added to last night's level judging by the footprints up to the drive. About to make an attempt to get to work (option of working from home removed by having forgotten power cable for laptop ), hopefully the gritters have been out in force but that's probably wishful thinking.
Just light snow forecast between 9 and 3, can but hope it's nothing more than that.
Location: stones throw from aintree racecourse, well maybe with a catapult
