Sorry Papa, that wasn't aimed at your obviously tongue in cheek comment. It was with regards the comments by BHL, who couldn't help but be all defensive about someone in Red.

If Ronaldo, Drogba, Arteta, Yakubu, Cuthbert, Dibble or Grubb had done the same thing, I would have still posted my disgust on it, and the general situation with diving as a whole.

Especially if they had the cheek to write those words in their much-publicised book.

Did you feel sorry for Liverpool for not getting the blatant handball?

Well yeah admittedly they should have had a penalty earlier in the game on even more than one occasion. You had to feel though that it was Atletico's night, that everything had gone right for them until that dubious decision. Hence i share their discontent.

P.s: And this is coming from a Real fan!

Just pointing out that Gerrard didn't dive. It was a stupid rash challenge by the defender. Gerrard got to the ball first and it was in the area.

All pundits agreed aftrewards, if it had happened outside the area it would have been a foul. It happened inside, and was therefore a penalty.

And if we have any Evertonians (Arteta) or Mancs (Ronaldo) moaning at Gerrard they are cheeky b'stards.

I could give you a list of the ones in Merseyside derbies, mate.

But I won't. BHL would have a fit.

Problem is almost all players cheat to one degree or another, from Andy Johnson last Sunday to one of the all time greats Maradona back in 1986.
How many times have players claimed for a corner or a throw in when they know the ball came off themselves or one of their team mates?
how many times, when 1-0 down in an important game with time running out, have half the players in a team manically flung their hands into the air then sprinted full out towards the ref claiming for a penalty over a innocuous incident in the penalty box, knowing full well it was never a pen.
how many players swear blind until they are blue(or red darren   ) in the face that they never fouled the opponent in the area giving away a penalty when it`s obvious it was a pen.
its all trying to decieve the ref, its cheating just like diving or punching the ball in the net.

I know what you mean, it doesn't happen in other sports. You wouldn't see Stephen Hendry knocking a ball into a pocket with his hand while the ref wasn't looking, or 100 metre sprinter deliberately slide tackling another five yards from the finish and then rolling around pretending he was the one hurt do you?

do you think that that is because in all other sports I can think of the referees / umpires apply the rule sstrictly.

As an example, this business of "yes it was a foul but that goes on all the time" which Lee Dixon [who was a very ordinary player IMHO] trots out on MOTD;- if it's a foul give it; and keep giving it until people sto  doing it

the FA and EPL are very poor about "simulation" or cheating as I call it. If they started handing a few bans out that would help

Usually players having genuinely been hurt don't roll around.  Referees are quite good at spotting cheats, but can be fooled by a player running at speed and getting the slightest touch to unbalance them, only replays can spot this.  The thing that needs strict attention from the referees is intention, the sliding tackle, studs up, the one that misses the player, thankfully.  We don't need the horrendous incidents of Eduardo, against Birmingham and Craig Fagan against Newcastle.  Other leg breaks can be accidental, but the studs showing tackle has to be outlawed and punished by more than a 3 match ban for a straight red.

Just seen one of youtube where an Inter Milan playing dived to win a penalty and got a 2 match ban afterwards by the Italian FA

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=l6kHpIOt3CQ&feature=related

Italian soccer team Inter Milan got a penalty by diving and after the game Adriano got a 2-match ban!

"Adriano will miss two Serie A matches after his ban for diving was confirmed by the Disciplinary Commission."

If this happened in the premier league I think Steven Gerrard would only play 10 - 15 matches a season

What gets me, is that all these top players that cheat and con refs are called clever players.
Shearer must have won hundreds of free kicks and pens by tugging on a players shirt and disguising it so well but he was never labelled a cheat.
It seems the top players these days are called cheats but go back a few years and they are called clever.

It's all about favourites.  Shearer, Gerrard etc etc will always be referred to by the pundits as either 'using their experience', or 'clever', because the pundits are too scared to say anything bad about the heroes of English football.

Some of the biggest cheats and dirtiest players are / were the bigger names

Add Bergkamp to the list.  Keane can go there too before anyone brings up some of his incidents.

Some of the more blatant ones would include Drogba (just so I've included someone from each of the top 4).
