In hindisght I probably should have layed off at evens But I took the view that the horse was a 1/2 shot and so why should i lay off at evens? But I guess that I should have layed him at that price anyway due to having him at ave odds of 7/2; and so should have traded the position even if I thought the price was a bit too big. But I didn't. Live and learn . . . .

Ive been caught out alot like this with cricket and tennis trading before in the past owl.
The price you want to get out at is not there because everybody else is also doing the same thing or maybe its not the price you want/expect for another reason. You have to give away value or accept worse value in order to get your trade in.
Ive learnt though for me its always best to trade out still even if it means giving away or accepting poor value.
well at least YY is consistent; he was always on about the price, not the horse's winning potential
but when trading out was mentioned it was scoffed at by some because the horse couldnt be beaten or couldnt possibly fail to get a place....
I suppose it comes down to this
1 as YY said, if you had played the market on this horse, there was money to be made because the horse was available at a price which would more than likely contract
2 as some of us said there was over confidence being placed in the horse because nothing is certain, expecially at Cheltenham (where the horse had never won)
so if you were playing the market, good bet, if you were backing the horse to win, hard luck.
shall we call it quits now?
