Nice race at Cheltenham on Saturday which should be between Starluck and Simarian, and should give an indicator to the class of these two juveniles.
Simarian has 2 course and distance wins and although rated higher than Starluck is 20's in the Triumph market. (Starluck 14's) I may have a bit of this 20's before the weekend.
Does anybody know the Betfair odds for Saturday's race if they are up yet?

Already on at 26s (should have said to avoid doubt - for the Triumph (sorry!)...you could do a lot worse!

Yes the race on Satirday has the three horses I am interested in for the triumph in the form of Simarian Starluck and Indian Groom, should be very telling - I see Simarian is not jocked up yet though.
I too have backed him for the Triumph as I have backed him the last twice at Chelts hoping he is another Katchit (kalanisi is the sire). (Jen did too) I also had thought Starluck won well last time out, but winning a cl 4 is not as good form as winning a cl1 at Chelts - that said I bet Starluck will be shorter than Simarian!
I wrote earlier on the thread that 25s for Simarian is overpriced as whilst IG has beaten him the weight swing means at level weights it would be a very close contest! _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzDGTMayREI

Oh no I've got ante post bets on all three of those, I hope they don't all turn up otherwise two of them will most likely drift after that race
I read the other day that Simarian's main target was the Finale hurdle at Chepstow and he wont turn up this weekend unless it's heavy going.

Didn't see that tGS. Is it the Welsh National meeting? Because I am going as usual and will keep Simarian under very close scrutiny and report back (if he runs, of course, hard to tell at this distance....)
When you say "main target" do you think connections mean for the meantime or for the whole season? I'd hate to think my modest pennies on him a/p for the Triumph had been wasted already!

Yes it's the grade one that Blue Shark won.

I think in the context of the article they meant out of the two races.
I've found the article :-
Quote:
Simarian set for Chepstow
Simarian, impressive winner of arguably the strongest juvenile hurdle of the season so far at Cheltenham, is being aimed at the Coral Future Champions Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow on 27 December.
Evan Williams' Kalanisi gelding waltzed away with the Grade Two event, won by Katchit and Franchoek in the past two seasons.
He will now be stepped up to Grade One level for a race the yard took with Sunray in 2003.
'He is an improving horse, he's improving with every piece of work he does at home,' said Williams.
'He'll be aimed at the Finale Hurdle now at Chepstow on Welsh National day, a race we've won before with a little horse called Sunray so we know what it takes to win it.
'Then we'll just be praying for a little bit of rain in the spring for the Triumph.
'He's improved greatly, he's a very tough and genuine horse, so let's hope we can get a higher grade race on the board with him,' he told At The Races.
Thank you tGS! That at least reassures a bit - Evan Williams seems to be a bit more up front than usual with this one (don't forget my neighbours have 3 with him, so I get the occasional bit of gossip), which might or might not increase the confidence level.
If the going is considered not to be suitable come March don't let that put you off. Simarian is by some margin the best juvenile we have seen so far and will be bang there in the Triumph. I just say this as I can see a scenario where his chances are dismissed because 'he needs softer going' and people lose confidence. Seen it happen before with such perceived requirements only for the horse to win regardless. _________________ RJI

I agree judge, the first race that Simarian won at Chelts the ground was good as it was twice when he has run well in defeat. The Chelt hill may give him the testing finish he needs even without soft ground.
As I said earlier my concern will be that he will have had a long season. SOme of the others will be fresher! Indian Groom who is now 40s will be shorter if he beats Starluck on Saturday and is still closely matched with Simarian. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzDGTMayREI
Also agree about the ground "requirement" - trainers often put up a "slight doubt" like that to cover themselves with the owners if it does all go to pot.....
Beginning to look forward to Welsh National day now!
Only starluck remains of my antepost bets in the Cheltenham race tomorrow, a lucky escape for me, hopefully he'll win and prove his last run was no fluke.

Bit worried about the ground and his stamina as he was a fast ground 10-12f horse on the flat. If he wins tomorrow though then he could definitely be very good. Lets hope so!

They said the same about Katchit. Unless something comes out of the woodwork I won't be looking beyond Simarian come March
