I thought he may break the 200M WR before the olympics and early on in the 100M rounds as i probably posted at some point but since the 100M final ive changed my mind.

Watching him through the rounds of the 200M it is clear he is miles ahead of the field and looks like 19.8 even 19.9 could win this imo. 19.7 is definetly a winning time. All things considered i dont see bolt breaking the WR today. I think he will run 19.5 maybe 19.6 something.

Dont underestimate just how good MJs record is despite the sheer raw freakish talent of Bolt.

Youd have to strongly fancy him to break it at some point but i dont think it will be today.

You can bet the winning time on betfair and i think the prices there are quite genourous. Ive backed bolt to get the WR earlyier on at 4/1 and since layed off. I actually tempted to lay him to get under 19.45 at evens now.

Why does he not exert himself to achieve his full potential? Even in the 100m final he ran the second half of the race like a chicken and broke the WR comfortably. He may either never find this form or be on the same drugs again so i'd be head down looking to smash the time. If he takes it easy in the 200 final as well, i see no reason why he shouldn't he hasn't actually tried in a single race, then that's very peculiar, didn't see any of the swimmers taking it easy even when they were seconds ahead of the WR (American Relay). Come on Bolt, show us all 21.4!

Maybe he wants to be like the pole vaulters, break the WR at a meet which pays big bucks for WR's.

19.4 jogging accross the line sideways giving it the big one to the crowd who will be going absolutely mental.

i reckon if you put a million quid on the line the 100m world record would now be 9.5 and the 200m would be about to become 19.25 - and i thought it would be decades before MJ's record went, he is a legend.

The 9.5 would be from a shotgun start so surely the second half of the 200M (Hitting the ground running) would be quicker? He'd do 19.25 doing the last 100 backwards

but the old stamina comes into play.

if he keeps showing off i'm going to have to dust of my trainers for 2012.

I dont think stamina comes into play for sprints though does it?
Aren't they flat out all the way (Well apart from Bolt   )
When Johnson ran 19.32 for his record the split was as follows

First 100m 10.12
Second 200m 9.2

Almost a second quicker
So i dont think stamina is an issue for these guys at this distance.

thats right but remember johnson was a 200/400 man and not a 100/200 runner

also you are standing start for the first 100 and running a bend which is slower than a  straight line

boult will go below 19.3 for sure

19.25 would be my guess

he will have it down below 19.2 before the end of the season though

Think Bolt may have started out as as 400m runner as well. Remember he dropped back to run the 100m. I have him at 5/2 to break the record. All dependent on him not waving to the crowd on the last 100m of course    probably be worth his while to save the record for a grand prix meeting and get a big Bonus i guess

if i were nike i would very publicly say "if you break the olympic record by 0.1 we will give you $200k."

nothing in their marketing budget. if he fails it costs them nothing, if he does it the whole world talks about it for years to come.

they are missing a major trick here.

anyway, a few minutes to go - i can't wait!

Hi Len,

Yep i'm on the boltanator at 6/4. I thought it was a good price then but it looks extra special now.
I have also backed him to beat Johnsons record at 7/2 - i really think he can do that too but it will be hard after the 100.
He won in a HACK CANTER today, an absolute HACK CANTER and clocked 9.92...............oh sweet jesus it was magic. I must have looked at the replay 20 times already so i have had 20 changes of underwear today.
Whatever about breaking 9.5 i think he will break 9.6 in the final and i will back him to do so if the bet is there at a good price.
I flagged up bolt a fair while ago and he has done nothing but impress me since.

Go on BOLTYNESS!!!!

Get in the hole.

Get in!
DD.

Nice one DD- he had to sweat a bit for you though!. Laughable how far ahead he was.

Will the tabloid press go for THUNDERBOLT or FIREBOLT I wonder? Shame the Jamaican flag doesn't allow for BOLT FROM THE BLUE....

Well done usain. He sure as hell went for that one. Really thought MJs record was in the book for at least 20 years up until recently.

I think Usains performance there does show just how good MJs record was though. Only time he had in his locker there was from the headwind and maybe from being tired from running over the last few days as otherwise he was flat out. He is still young and so can still improve lots but i dont have the feeling he can go much faster than a tenth or so faster. But then again this bloke has done nothing but improve since he was a junior so its a case of where is the bottom of the barrel?

Argh! I dashed out of a meeting to try and watch the BBC website stream - and it crashed at the start of the race! Nightmare!
