£25 entry for 6 races, half of which were less than 8 runners, and two handicaps with less than 16. Turned out to be my worst day’s punting in a long long time, but at least I got to see a couple of decent nags.
To summarise:
Binoccular skipped round and had a nice confidence booster and blow-out, but the form is completely meaningless. Wouldn’t back him at Chelt.
Anak is a tough type and possibly one to follow. According shouldn’t be completely written off, as the connections that think highly of him aren’t complete mugs. Should have a good second career as a show pony anyway.
Punchestowns had a good run in that he made a howler and got himself reorganised and going again very smartly- sign of a decent horse. Again, the form looks gash and I wouldn’t rush out to back him for the RSA as I'd prefer him to have a bit more experience, and to have won at Chelt or similar.
Racing Demon looked good at one point in the hurdle race, but has probably buggered his handicap mark now. I nearly backed Chief Yeoman e-w as had an idea a Venetia horse might go well, but thought Henderson was going to have a clean-up day so went for Strawberry instead….
Chewster had a couple of quid e-w on good old Monkerhostin, so we were roaring him home. When the photo result was announced we were literally the only ones in the stands cheering. What a great performance.
Mr Chewster had the “perfect” result with an exacta and swinger in the last. I backed useless favourite Dog Of Dogs, relying on McCoy to get me out of trouble again to no avail.
Have to say I thought wistfully of strappy shoes, floaty frocks and jugs of Pimms more than once on a cold, dank, winless day.
Binoccular looking jaunty
Punchestowns- fills the eye as they say
Punchestowns
Lough Derg
Ashkazar- massive soup plate hooves
Racing Demon looked well
Gone To Lunch- gone to sleep more like
Oedipe- bonny looking type

Lacdoudal- would have been nice to see him run well again

Lovely pictures, I couldn't see them this morning they were like postage stamps Punchestowns looks like my kind of chaser and I've always liked Oedipe.
Is there anything of interest on that Kauto Star vs Denman bus ?

Had a great day at Sandown as well, but no winners. Well I had a winner in the last with my free tote £2 bet, but it beat my main bet lol.
Was really surprised how quiet it was at Sandown (even the food vans decided not to turn up). Not sure if it was because of the Rugby or the small fields.
At the end of the day I would rather see great horses in small fields than large fields of average horses.
Of course would be even better if trainers would take on some of the fancied horses.

Good write up Tagalie
I had a similarly dreadful punting day. A very poor card to be honest, I was more interested in the racing from Doncaster and if it wasn't for the fact that I have a jumps membership this year I probably wouldn't have gone..
In the end I only bet on three of the six races, and my main bet was also on SOS, or "Dog of Dogs" - absolutely brilliant, sums it up well.....
I did wonder if he was really put in the race though, never really seemed to try and get on terms
Ho hum, onto the military days, maybe the hunters and amateur rider races will dig me out of my sandown win drought
