Accessing this forum from work (or not!!)For those of you who are unable to access this forum from work but would like to to I am working on something that might help.
I need to find out some info. There is some cost involved so I need to make sure that what I want to do will work.
As a small test please go to www.downsizer.net and click on the link to the forum in the top right hand corner. Let me know if you can access this page at work.
Thanks,
Skanky

Thanks Jimbob, I really appreciate your help with this.
This is highly likely because it is a web address not associated with any free hosting sites i.e. freewebs.com & myfreeforum.org
I also think that if I created a website that hosted the forum then I would need an address that would be pretty neutral i.e. not contain words such as betting, gambling etc.
Any ideas from members here for this also would be appreciated.

How about Skankys Sports SiteHow about Skankys Sports Site.
Although I am not allowed to gamble at work, I can get on sites such as Racing Post, Sporting Life and Bettingzone

That goes for most poeple, although some others find their works internet access a little more strict. Thats why I want to avoid having certain words in the URL (web address). When we are a world famous betting advice forum it will be a little more difficult
Nice suggestion on the URL. I would prefer to leave out skanky from the title so that we have something slightly more prefessional sounding. Your efforts have led me to sportscene.com which thinking of it sounds like a tv program. We also have to bear in mind that the URL has to be unused so that it is available to purchase.
Keep the suggestions coming everyone...

How about ...
Sporting Choices
Sporting Options
Sporting Chat
I still like The Dark Side but it doesn't really say anything! And may already be used.

Knowing how many geeks there are out there I think the chances of thedarkside.com being taken are 1.01 on betfair.
Great suggestions though, Sporting Options sounds quite catchy.

I am trying to sort something out. I am going to keep you all posted with the progress.
I have just this minute purchased www.sports-pro.co.uk and hopefully I will be incorporating the forum onto this address.
This website will also be contain other items including the naps competition.
When I have more time (after this summer) I would also like to add more features to the website, so I will be looking for volunteers who would like to add articles to the website.

This process has been completed and you can now access this forum via:
forum.sports-pro.co.uk
I suggest you access the site in this way from now on.

My work have just updated their mail-filter and this site is now not accessible as it falls under 'gambling'.
Any idea of ways around this?
I'm miffed as it's not really a gambling site in the main!
The gimps at work can still access their social networking sites and spend all day poking each other.
It sucks.

You can try and access the site through an internet proxy. It'll be a bit slower and there might be a few annoying adverts but it will work. Just google internet proxy there will be loads of them.

Thanks TGS, will give it a go.

Yes, but be careful. I have just tried to get a proxy server for watching the BBC/C4/any other racing channel (because I am in Bosnia my location is recognised through the ISP, and rights issues mean that most racing content is blocked). However, the proxy I tried did not work (apparently some of them are a bit, shall we say, unreliable), and although I only paid a very small sub for a 10 day trial, it also caused havoc on my office PC by knocking out MS Outlook.
It is, as I have discovered, exceptionally embarrassing to have to admit to your IT manager that you have secretly been trying to install an encryption programme.........

Ouch, you shouldn't be paying for a proxy server the vast majority are free you just have to put up with the adverts and swap to new proxies when the one you're using stops working.
One of the reasons as to why there's plenty of them out there is because kids at school use them to bypass the security measures on school computers so they can go on facebook/myspace/twitter etc.

tGS, I THINK the problem is that I am in Bosnia in the first place, which seems to be a black hole as far as all this is concerned. One of my favourite internet sites is Spotify, and it doesn't work here because the site is specific in saying that Bosnia (or technically Bosnia and Herzegovina) is excluded from their service because of its appalling record in allowing/supporting piracy......I guess in UK it would be easier!

In that scenario if you choose a proxy server that is based in a banned country or has been flagged as a potential proxy server it still wont work.
One thing I would say to people using proxy servers is that remember that anything you do when using them goes through a third party so I wouldn't go and do your banking through them or give away any important passwords/details.

No luck. All the internet proxy sites are blocked too.
So, that just leaves you to try and re-classify the site... !

Same problem here without internet proxy. This site is not accessible.
And I do not even notice that it is slower but there are some ads. Not a big problem. But it is strange. At my work I have access to Facebook and things like that. I could understand if this was not accessible.
Anyway, now everything's working.
