Cat, i have taken the liberty of renaming the thread, so anyone wanting info on the Derby finds it all in the one place.
I am intending to do several £2 + wins as well as a few each ways. So far i have gone for Kilkenny Lonjack in a big way. Some at 170 and more at 100
Bubbly Totti.... Maybe he needs further but im sure he will run well.
Ballymac Under.... Great puppy as shown by his low price.
Tyrur Rhino but i suspect he may defend his crown in Ireland. I tipped him up at big prices for the semi and the final last year at Shelbourne.
Tyrur Laurel.... She can only get better.
Farloe Reason....Ran well for a long way last year
Blonde jeannie.....big price in my opinion.
My overal aim is to lay out about £50 and ensure a profit if any one wins
I also have a habit of doing several at 1000/1 £1 e/w for fun

Greyhound Derby 2008I just found this forum when I did a search for the Greyhound Derby 2008 Trap Draw and have sign up and joined. I have been actively involved in greyhound racing for 30 years now and also worked with some of the best greyhond trainers in the business.
I have my own site which is more to do with my job as I am a Taxi driver at Stansted Airport and I'm running trips from Stansted Airport to Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium for all the Greyhound Derby 2008 race nights.
I hope to meet a few of you there.

Greyhound Derby 2008Thanks for the welcome guys and yes this year I am hoping to get people to pay for me to go to Wimbledon for the Greyhound Derby.
I was working for Seamus Graham when he went to Wimbledon and we had a sad night the night of the semi finals. I was also with Nick Savva when Andy was listed as the trainer for Droopys Hewitt but that was another sad time.
I was the handler that put Westmead Hawk into the traps the night of his first 'Open' race win before going off to St Kitts to build a Greyhound Track and missing the last 3 years.
So let's hope that this year I get the chance to have fun and I look forward to watching the likes of Nick Savva, Paul Hennessy, Fraser Black, Seamus Graham and Charlie Lister practise their profession.
Let the Greyhound Derby 2008 begin.

one of the rules for the comp is that you need to do 10 post's before the final.

Two big shocks, and its only the first night. Ballymac Under and Rossacredibility both being eliminated. I am wondering if either will now be aimed at the Irish equivelent.
The fastest time was Farloe Reasons 28.58 but Barnfield on Air was close behind in 28.60. If Barney keeps breaking fast he will soon be favourite for this. I am begining to wish i had taken some of the fancy odds that were available on Betfair. Even 25/1 could look massive in hindsight.

I guess the biggest shock of the second night of heats, was both Spears Tarquynn and Farloe Black getting eliminated. The two fastest times were Barnfield Slippy in 28.60 and Kilkenny Lonjack in 28.63

I still think Barnfield on Air is a great price at 20's, I backed him before round 1 and while there's no reason for his price to hsve shortened for getting through, he won in a quick time. He's in a killer heat, but a win would see his priced halved. Any comments?

The worry for Barney backers is this. How will he cope comming from behind a wall of horses. No doubt hes special, but as yet he only does that if he leads. His heat isnt the easiest , as four good dogs are fighting for three places. If he breaks he qualifies, if he miises the break maybe not.
Incidently todays RP has an A-Z write up on every dog. Well worth the money. Anyone wanting to know what was sais about any individual dog, let me know.
As for 20/1, i think its a great price with a view to laying off some later. If he makes the final he will be 1st or 2nd fav for sure.

Westmead, full credit on spotting my deliberate error. My next question is why has a dog i backed at 200/1 E/w, dropped to around 20/1 after just one heat ? I know Barnfield Slippy posted a fast time, but i am on double the odds a place 1,2,3,4 than i would now get for a win... Not that i am moaning.

he had a cracking run just before the derby heats, i think thats why his price bombed.
i think people are to quick to jump on quick dogs. imo i think there are so many good dogs left in this derby. it could be one of may...

Mikey Farloe Reason and Barnfield On Air are middle runners, the other fopur are wide seeds. Romeo Maldini and Side Leg are very good dogs though, Side Leg went a long way in this last year and is a consistent Wimbledon dog. BOA should hit the bend first, if so its good night nurse, its a cracking heat to start the night with.
Thanks for the link.

Heat 1: 1 Tyrur Kieran 2 Cyclers Lark 3 Rio Quando (m) 4 Cats Whiskers (m) 5 A Million Maid (w) 6 Droopys Tobey (w)
Heat 2: 1 Seanis Lad 2 Ronnies Hustle 3 Loyal Honcho (m) 4 Monis Pet (w) 5Kilkenny Lonjack (w) 6 Romeo Turbo (w)
Heat 3: 1 Commander Chief 2 Farloe Batman 3 Tyrur Laurel (m) 4 Barnfield Leo (w) 5 Toosey Blue (w) 6 Annual Scholes (w)
Heat 4: 1 Captain Solo 2 Love Tiger 3 Droopys Obafemi 4 Farley Legend (m) 5 Lenson Joker (m) 6 Splanc (m)
Heat 5: 1 Express Ego 2 Blue Jockey 3 Farloe Reason 4 Catunda Harry (m) 5 Melodys Pat (m) 6 Barnfield Slippy (w)
Heat 6: 1 Boherna On Air 2 Youllhavetogo 3 Mustang Garcia 4 Getmeadoctor 5 Lenson Express 6 Bubbly Totti (w)
Heat 7: 1 Love Mac 2 Seanis Strike 3 Barnfield Woody 4 Fabulous Azure 5 Machu Picchu (m) 6 Dilemmas Flight (w)
Heat 8: 1 Barnfield On Air 2 Ullid Conor 3 Kryptonite 4 Blonde Dino (m) 5 Side Leg (w) 6 Droopys Maestro (w)
Mikey, at least Barnfield has the rail to help. Ullid Conor never gives up, Kryptonite has tons of early and Side Leg is a very good Wimledon regular. Barney must either crack out, or prove he can come from behind.
Farloe Reason also has a tough heat. I coudlnt rule out anything there, except maybe Melodys Pat, i just hope Barnfield Slippy qualifies for me.
Best draw of the lot is probably Bubblys Totti, drawn six in what looks an easier heat.
If you took the 25/1 on Betfair last week, lay off your stake at least, that way you have a free bet.
Several shocks Friday and saturday, Blonde Jeannie was never in the race. Tyrur Rhino was withdrawn, Westmead Lord, Westmead keawn, Unique Option, Romeo Maldini, Ninja Jamie and Advantage Johnny all gor eliminated.

Okay ive lost the plot. Just dipped in for a few more and now im left with the following,
Heat one
Tyrur laurel
Heat two
Loyal Honco
Droopys Obafemi
Lenson Express
Heat three
Commander Chief
Kilkenny Lonjock
Barnfield Slippy
Bubblys Totti
Heat four
Rio Quando
Seanis lad
Two show a very small loss, all the others would be a win. Most i could get in the semis is 9, the least i could get is 1. fingers crossed and am expecting 5 through.

after watching the 1/4s the dogs that impressed me the most were:

senis lad (big outside chance)
toosey blue
my pick for the derby toosey blue!!

The draw will be crucial, i will post it later as its probably on Betfair by now.
Kilkenny Lonjack stood to wins me a tidy sum, i havent much hope of their being a big shock unless the draw is in my favour. I agree about Toosey Blue, he is the strongest finisher and just needs to hold his breaking together. He is also the only wide runner left.

Just out of interest does it really matter if a dog wins his heat or is it highly unlikely it will win the competition if that happens.
|
theGoingStick
|
Oh and I take it Bubbly Totti was eliminated tonight ? Unfortunate, must of been one of the most fancied runners to exit the competition tonight
|
alansouthcoast
|
TGS yes i think you are right about Bubblys Totti. As for the heats, well the first three qualify, but they can still be a good form guide.
Here is the draw.
1-droopys obafemi
2-lenson express
3-express ego
4-kryptonite
5-tyrur laurel
6-toosey blue
1-tyrur kieran
2-barnfield on air
3-commander chief
4-seanis lad
5-loyal honcho
6-blonde dino
Toosey Blue may struggle to clear Tyrur Laurel in the first, Kryptonite is likely to blast out and turn left, causing chaos on the inner.
Barnfield on Air must blast out in heat two, Tyrur Kieran will keep him company to the bend and again there could be chaos at the first bend.
I have five left and only expect two to qualify if the races are cleanly run.
|

The 1st Semi looks slightly easier to call with the front 3 Toosey Blue, Tyrur Laural and Kryptonite a couple of lengths clear of the next best. As Alan said Toosey Blue won't get it as easy with Tyrur Laural on his inside and they could hamper one another. Although Kryptonite was slightly behind TB and TL on time tonight, he missed the break and still hit the 1st bend in front - he has massive early pace and is my banker to get through on Saturday. I cant see T1,T2 and T3 being fast enough to get in unless 5 and 6 come together.
Prediction 4 x 6 x 5
The 2nd semi is trickier to call, I can't see BOA and Tyrur Kieren both qualifying for the final from 1 & 2, so whoever hits the 1st bend in front may well do so at the expense of the other. I've got my fingers crossed for Blonde Dino who I have at 100/1 e/w (1,2,3,4), but the mass of railers left in means he's always going to be in 5 or 6. One to take from tonight's heats is Commander Chief, slowly away (5.09), and still only 1.5 lengths behind in the hottest heat of the night. Can still be backed at 50's
Prediction 1 x 3 x 6
I still have 3 left in
Kryptonite (16)
BOA (20)
Blonde Dino (100)

TGS posted this on the daily thread.
Here's the bluesq odds for the final :-
Kryptonite 3/1
Lenson Express 50/1
Tyrur Kieran 11/4
Loyal Honcho 5/2
Tyrur Laurel 11/4
Blonde Dino 10/1
Looks very open.
I would agree with him, Lenson Express looks overpriced at 50s though.

Tyrur Laurel for me tonight. But boy, what a race in prospect.
Kryptonite could be away and gone from trap one, except Trap One has never won a final.
Lenson Express could ping the leads and will instantly head for the rail, making one a risky bet.
Tyrur Keiran could fly out of box three, ensuring first bend chaos with the two dogs inside him
Loyal Honcho could run the same as last week and be up with the lead from pillar to post.
Tyrur Laurel never runs a bad race, why start now and the draw will help as well.
Blonde Dino could show a glimmer of last years form and then its good night nurse.
5 4 3 for me tonight... Two though, is my biggest winner. 5 or 4 get me just about level on the whole competition. 2 is also the best e/w bet for ages. He tends to fade but has the bets halfway split.

Seems as though most of us think Tyrur Laurel will win tonight.
Don't forget bluesq are going e/w 3 places if you fancy one of the bigger priced fancies.
My initial thoughts are to back Ninja Jamie and lay Loyal Honcho tonight.

Mikey, well done with Blonde Dino, who knows if he would have won with a clear run.

Cheers Alan - I really enjoyed this years Derby, and with Blonde Dino placing I made a nice profit. A slight shame the final was so messy, I think only Honcho got a clear run
- who knows what might have happened if Dino had got round the 1st bend trouble free, he was definately a lot closer to the winner than in the semi..........
