Blu-RayCan anyone recommend some decent Blu-ray disks?
I bought a player over christmas and I've only got a very small collection of disks. It consists of Gladiator, the Bourne collection, Ghandi and Life.
I found Gladiator to be an improvement on the DVD but the Bourne collection I don't think made much difference on the new format.

The Matrix Reloaded is the most improved Blu-Ray I've seen, the half hour sequence from going to the Merovingian to Neo flying in over the crashing lorries is astounding

Trouble is I've got the matrix trilogy on DVD so am not inclined to re-buy what I already have.

Don't know much about that film but will buy it if the price is right. I noticed on play that UP will be out in blu-ray format in a month or so, will buy that as well!

Hi tgs
I Am Legend is a superb blu-ray. Have you got a good surround sound system?

I got a home theatre system at the same time as the blu-ray player, I can't remember all the models but all of it is Panasonic and I read some decent reviews about it all.

I think the one in the middle is Ray.

Top choice on Panasonic equipment, I'm a bit of a what is known as a fanboy.
Their all-on-one surround sound systems are good and effective, I started with one a few years ago. But don't be surprised if you find yourself upgrading within the next two years.
I've just got another pair of rather large but fine mordaunt short floorstanders.
p.s. I also really liked the new Star Trek blu-ray. Well worth watching

When I looked into it Panasonic got loads of good reviews and I felt it was good value for money. If I was a multi-millionaire I'd probably get a load of top end Denon equipment for my living room

That's a good call, I haven't seen that one yet, I'd imagine there will be some good special effects in it as well!

That's the thing, I can't wait to see 2012 on Blu-Ray, there's really no point in watching certain films films on Blu-Ray.

Denon are highly regarded, but I much prefer Yamaha for AV amplifiers. I auditioned them all. Denon just sounded a little flat or dead to me, Onkyo sounded too bright like listening to audio in a tin can and you could cook an egg on the case after 10 mins running, but Yamaha sits perfect with how I like to hear films and music - warm, clear, not too bright and not too dull, but with plenty of bass oomph and warmth. I love my amp.
And with my new Mordaunt Short speakers I'm going to watch my blu-ray collection over again and enjoy them in a whole new way.
But for screens, it's Panasonic all the way for me, they've been making the best screens at a reasonable price for a while now. It also looks like they've bought the Kuro technology from Pioneer who have stopped making tv's. At the recent Consumer Electronics Show, CES, in Vegas, Panasonic had a new "infinite black" plasma on display. Basically a Pioneer Kuro infinite black plasma with a Panasonic case and badge. Very exciting, the Kuro's have been the most outstanding TV for several years now, in any category, with their amazing contrast ratios which put our current panasonic screens to shame really. I hope they stick to their mantra of affordable technology and don't price this similar to what Pioneer had it at, that's why they nearly went bust and had to stop making them, they were an elite product with not enough customers.
OK I'm sure I've bored you enough, go and enjoy your blu-rays.
p.s. you do know about www.avforums.com ?? 2nd best forum on the net....

I bought the Avatar Bluray, must say the film looks great on my setup but a bit disappointed there's no extras like deleted scenes/directors commentary or documentaries on it.

I heard about this on the radio yesterday - it's the same on ordinary DVD. It's being re-released in November with extras and re-released in 2011 again in 3D
Maybe they think they haven't made quite enough money out of this yet

They did the same with the new Star Wars films. Don't you need a special 3D TV for 3D films can't see that one selling too well most people don't have HD yet.
