All Purpose MMAdoes anybody watch MMA (ufc, cage rage, k1 etc)? I've been watching it for over 3 years now and went to the recent ufc event in manchester.
I also think (this should be fun) that its far better and skilled than boxing.

violence in the street has nothing to do with mma, thats like saying gta has a effect on kids who rob cars. its down to policeing and parenting skills, but thats not what this thread is about.

I wasnt talking about kids, Im talking about grown adults, who watch this rubbish and then think that its ok for them to go start a fight etc. The two guys who work in the warehouse where I work go to watch this all the time, and all they do on nights out is fight, because they love this sport so much.

Shamardal,
I'm not going to sit here and defend MMA as my personal opinion is that it's the most boring spectator sport ever to be invented but martial arts, of any description, teach discipline and respect of others. Therefore to accuse MMA of being responsible for idiots fighting on the street is a little far fetched! Especially as there has been fighting on the streets long before UFC etc ever started.
The argument that violence on tv breeds violence in real life is rubbish anyway. I watch a lot of Asian Cinema and Japanese Films are the most violent, twisted, & downright sadistic in the world but Japan has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world!

ufc 75: londonUFC 75 is on in london tomorrow and the good news for all you virgin viewers its free on sentanta 1
me i'll be paying £10 to watch but at least i get the footy for a month. bonus!
now this has to be one of the best ppv cards in a longtime the fights are as follows (with my predictions in bold):
Quinton Jackson vs Dan Henderson Quinton Jackson long time friends go head to head in a unification match. Quinton for me as he's improved so much since arriving @ the ufc
Matt Hamill Vs. Michael Bisping Michael Bisping by far a better all round ufc fighter than hamill (who's deaf!) and come guys you've got to support the home ground talent
Mirko Filipovic Vs. Cheick Kongo Mirko Filipovic (cro crop for short) love kongo to bits and shouted him on when he fought at manchester but cro crops a monster and comes off a defeat(which no expected) so he's got somthing to prove, watch for cro crops kicks.
Houston Alexander Vs. Alessio Sakara Houston Alexander this is his 2nd fight in the ufc but this rookie looks the business expect him to win with style.
Marcus Davis Vs. Paul Taylor Marcus Davis never seen thsese 2 fight before so just gone for some random pick.
this is the ufc/mma so even the favourites can be beat and every title bar 1 (lightweight i think) has changed hands at least once this year and even the god that is chuck liddel lost his title after a near 2 year reign to jackson.
if your in on saturday please watch it, dont belive the hype that its human cock fighting. Ufc/mma is heavily regulated and a doctor can stop the fight same as boxing

i have never understood this argument at all
watch a comedy and you feel happiier
watch a love story you feel more loving / fluffy..if you see what i mean
but whatch a violent film and you dont feel violent
im not say everyone, but surely for some people the consequnce is there?
kubrick stopped a clockwork orange being shown for that very reason

I will give it a go if I get a chance to watch it! I may be going out tomorrow night but if I do will try & catch a repeat. I love wrestling and some of my fellow wrestling fan friends have started getting into UFC! I have never actually seen it but have seen things like Cage Rage and quite frankly I'm not impressed! Give me wrestling anytime. Yes it is fake but it's also exciting while Cage Rage just seems to be 2 blokes knocking 7 bells out of each other!
Anyway, I will give UFC a try as you can't knock it til you've tried it I suppose.

This is perhaps not the thread to have this discussion but it is all to do with your mindset. Now as you say, It is possible that someone who watches a violent film will then go out and do something that mimicks the film. But of this does happen, I don't think the film can be blamed as there is obviously something wrong inside the head of the aforementioned person anyway and if a film doesn't trigger it, something else will.
Obviously there are children who may watch violent films and go out and do something but then the parents should not let them watch the films in the first place!

cage rage is very amatuer compared to ufc. if you dont catch it tomorrow there's always ufc unleashed (which is like ufc version of heat) its on bravo or sentanta around 10pm or bravo are showing ultimate fighter (which the contender ripped off) at 8 weeknights its now in its 6th series.

he fought well last night, did what he needed to do. I have much respect for chris leben too after last night (he doesnt half have a iron jaw!). How much did he look like evan tanner with the breaded hair?
he is the british face of mma, but i dont think we'll (as a nation) will accept him as a superstar.
ufc 91 is the fight of the year lesnar vs couture. brock for heavyweight champion?

UFC 92 is going to be huge, have you seen the line up? Im not sure about Lesnar but he is a powerhouse.
Tiago Alves looked very good this weekend, he destroyed Josh Kosheck.
