Its about time I stuck my head on the block and a horse I have been following looks to be plotted for this race.

The only plausible reasons that I can think of for running a 3 mile staying chaser in a 2 mile hurdle would be to (a) get a run, and (b) protect the handicap mark over fences. The timing does not seem coincidental to me.

Royal County Star ran a tidy race finishing a running on 8th at a very inadequate trip with the jockey not being at all hard on him and I think this has set him up perfectly for the William Hill Trophy which Tony Martin won the year before last with Dun Doire.

I have backed RCS at 8/1 NRNB rather than take the chance at the 10s available and if Ruby is booked then I will go in again.

RCS is probably still well ahead of the handicapper but his jumping has to be a big concern at Cheltenham - I'm not sure he's good enough in that department.

The horse i'm keen on for this is Juveigneur to place. With his festival record over this C&D (1-2-2) he always needs to be respected and he is back on a decent mark now (lower than when short headed last year). I know he's 11 and not getting better but he ran well enough at Doncaster last time to suggest that he can make the frame back at his favourite hunting ground. 20/1 to win at the moment so should be a decent place price come the day.

I don't think that RCS will be running at cheltenham. I thought the Irish National was the target and from what i have heard he won't run at cheltenham as the Irish National is so early this year. Maybe he will take both races but it seems unlikely to me.

Thats a fair point. Maybe the prep run was for the Irish National and not for Cheltenham.

We'll see...

Definately won't be running. If you did it with bet365 or betfred you may of just caught the NRNB, I'd double check the bet just in case !!!

I am really disappointed Principe Azzurro isn't entered for whatever reason as I really fancied his chances. Fortunately he was NRNB so no damage done financially, but it takes away one of my biggest fancies on the first day. But at least Mon Mome and L'ami are still entered.

Regards.
