What I don't understand is how we know... if he has a new identity a) how do people now and b) in whos interest is it to know?

Certainly baffling.

Now we do know though (I'd love to know the source of this information?) I think any, even slight, re-offence should be treated with Life. And not that, I'll give you 20 years you can be out in 8, life, I mean LIFE.

it might help to know how these things work?

The man in question is out on license. Any breach of his licese arrangements means he will be arrested, re-imprisoned and brought before a court.

The options are

a] withdrawal of the license (if he was posing a dager to others or if his conduct was posing a threat to himself, or if the breach was in any way serious) so that he would be back in custody until another parole application was possible in some months or years time

b] further license restrictions (e.g. he may be barred from certain geographical aeas or from having any contact with certain individuals)

There is no ned to give him a life sentence because he has an indeterminate sentence already and the only reason he is not in prison is because he has been released on terms, terms which he has now apparantly broken

There is much speculation that he had vistied Merseyside and that not going "home" was one of the terms of their release. Who knows. Certainly there have been consistent rumours that one of them has been boasting about who he is (which would put him in danger) and may be the reason why he has been re-arrested.

There is no shred of a suggestion that he has caused any harm or committed another crime

The speculation of visiting Meseyside seem right.
The mirror says he went in a series of bars including Krazy House. The Funky Box.Bar Fly and Walkabout.
He has visited the Cavern Club and watched the band Kwane at the Echo Arena.
He has even been to Goodison to watch Everton  and wears an Everton shirt to matches.

Lots have received texts ,myself included saying a certain person from Fleetwood was Jon Vebables.
The guy is a father of two kids who is living in fear of his life ,after facebooks groups identified the innocent man as one of James Bulgers killers .
Last night facebook acted and closed the group down.

That just about sums up the whole mob mentality, people who do that sort of thing deserve to be locked up with kiddie fiddlers and rapists and they should take turns abusing them.

Some of my clearly less intelligent frends have been sending these txts. This poor guy, even a 54 yr old man of the same name has been getting grief.

Exactly the same as the idiots from just outside Portsmouth (where I live) in Paulsgrove when they wrongly stormed a pediatrician's house trying to attack him.

Just as bad as the real criminals.

I reckon that the media ought to be forced to cover the cost of creating new identities for people.  They bang on about how much it's costing to "protect" Venables, and in the recent past Maxine Carr etc. when they're desperate to expose them and don't really care if they cock things up along the way.

The phrase "in the public interest" is being abused to cover media interest in getting viewers/readers.

correct

there is a massive difference between what is in the public interest and what the public are interested in

I got the exact same text from an associate of mine. Sent him a text back saying, "You gonna tell me who killed Diana or JFK next? I'd settle for tonights lottery results, something I REALLY give a f___ about!" I think we should find out the instigator of these original texts, find someone on the sex offenders register, give them their address and see how they like to be victimised.

By the way, the lottery numbers he gave me were, 10, 16, 17, 22, 39, 44
